Bringing a historic product bang to to date
Churchfields farm in Droitwich approached Alt-Energi to consult about their renewable energy options for their new venture, Droitwich Salt. Will and Gillian Kerton have recreated a salt works, based on similar principles to the original salt works established in the 1850’s.
The evaporation of the brine collected from the original spring is powered by heating from a biomass boiler. The installed system of underfloor heating is similar to that used in underfloor heating for poultry sheds. Built on raised tables in poly tunnels built to capture sunlight which also helps to evaporate the brine, the process is highly efficient.
